Légende: My Friend, Denial : : : : : : : : What, that tree? Oh, it’s just sick, see, ‘cause summer isn’t over yet in the high country. I . . . mean . . . it can’t be over, because it just started a few weeks back, in late June. Yeah, I remember . . . it stopped snowing and the sun came out and people started wearing shorts and smiling a lot, but that was just a few weeks back, so . . . no . . . the leaves certainly aren’t turning yet. That aspen just ate too much dust from the road this summer and isn’t feeling well. Maybe I should go cut it down before the other aspens get the wrong idea and decide to follow suit. : : : : : : : : All right, I have to admit, I’ve been holding off on posting a shot with any fall color in it, but for good reason. I mean, sure, the cottonwood trees along the river and creek banks started showing color in mid August, but those confused, finicky, slightly-water-depraved-so-lets-turn-yellow leaves don’t count. And, yeah, the occasional aspen branch here and there had grown more yellowy shade of green than those around it, but that happens when the night start cooling off. So I’m only declaring summer over when I see an aspen good and yellowed up, from top to bottom. : : : : : : : : As you can probably tell, Denial and I were getting along just fine until I was coming down Prospect Drive Tuesday afternoon and caught a glimpse of what is going on out Gothic Road. On my way home from work Tuesday evening, I gave in, bid a sad farewell to my friend, Denial, grabbed the camera and took today’s shot. Grrrr. : : : : : : : : But seriously, autumn rocks in CB, almost as much as summer. We have several weeks of fall gorgeousness for riding and hunting and all the fun stuff we love to do here before ski season! I’ll keep you posted on the changing colors it should be a great season for color in the Gunnison Country. : : : : : : : : For the short term, gray looks to be the predominant color, with Wednesday forecasted to be moist in the Crested Butte area. Keep your slicker handy and stay dry out there!
