Mt. Hood Meadows use to be my favorite ski resort on Mt Hood. It’s a little further away from Portland than the other resorts, but the extra lifts and longer runs made it well worth the trip. Tickets, food and rentals use to be “somewhat” affordable, and the lines were never too long. Now, it’s quite the opposite! Lift ticket prices are in line with “premiere” resorts. Rental prices, food and amenities have gone up 20%+ in the last couple years. Conservatively, a weekend trip to Mt. Hood Meadows costs $250+ for a single adult and child. Not to mention, their new “barcode system” brings the lines to a crawl on the weekends. Meadows seems to think they have a premiere resort, but once you start comparing it to others, you will see that they fall short and are simply overpriced.
If you’re planning to go skiing in the Portland area, do yourself a favor and check out Ski Bowl. The lodging isn’t as clean/nice as Meadows, but the price is much more affordable and the skiing conditions are just as good (or better given Meadow’s windy conditions). Also, the night skiing is incredibly huge!
